W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation Achieves Woman-Owned Business Enterprise Certification (WBE) and Historically Underutilized Business Certification (HUB) as Company Celebrates 95th Anniversary
Houston, Texas, June 17, 2009 -
W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation has obtained certification as a woman-owned business enterprise (WBE) from the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance and is recognized as a Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) by the state of Texas. Recently, Laura Draper Bellows was named Chairman of the Board and has served as Executive Vice President of Bellows. Ms. Bellows’ majority ownership and leadership role in the company qualifies Bellows for the WBE and HUB certifications.
“As we preserve and build upon our 95-year foundation of experience and excellence, Bellows is emerging in new ways,” said Laura Bellows.
Bellows recently completed an eight-floor vertical expansion to Texas Children’s Feigin Center as well as an expansion to the Children’s Museum of Houston which included an addition, an administration building and a parking garage. Current projects include the 15-floor Texas Children’s Maternity Center with a four-story underground parking garage, and the Bayou Bend Visitor and Education Center for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Founded in 1914, Bellows has constructed many of Houston’s most notable structures including the San Jacinto Monument, Wortham Theater Center, BMC Software Campus and the Museum of Fine Arts Beck Building. Bellows’ diverse projects throughout Texas and the Southwest include performing arts theaters, museums, office buildings, retail buildings, industrial facilities, hospitals, churches, wastewater treatment plants, tenant build-outs and complete building renovations.
