Spring is for more than cleaning - Declutter & Organize!
Houston, TX, February 18, 2008 - Gone are the days of simple sorting, dusting and donating of outdated items. Spring cleaning has evolved. With the help of The Spring Home and Garden Show at The Woodlands, area residents now have help with that New Year's resolution to go beneath the surface and truly get organized.
Linda Durham, owner of Organizing Matters, a professional organizing company, will host "Spring Decluttering and Organizing,” at the Sixth Annual Spring Home and Garden Show in The Woodlands, March 8-9, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, 1601 Lake Robbins Drive.
"I know that not everyone is going to hire a professional organizer,” Durham said. "So my objective is to give people the tools they need to do the job themselves.”
During her talk Durham will teach three keys to organizing:
Knowing your clutter and what you can do about it
Gaining basic principles of organizing that will help you use your stuff and space wisely and effectively
Finding out how to plan your home from top to bottom — (Really!)
"If you have the information, the time and the persistence to do it, you can do it,” Durham said.
Durham is a living testimony. Prior to starting Organizing Matters in 1999, Durham said she reached "organizing rock bottom.” After years of trying to manage too much, too fast, and in the wrong way, she found herself operating as an overworked, overwhelmed and underproductive mom.
In a year's time — not overnight — she pulled herself, her home, and her life together. Durham said she often reminds people that organizing one's home is not a weekend project. People should not be in a rush, because often organizing too fast does just as much harm as not organizing at all. She reminds those she speaks with to organize around their "body-clocks,” times when they are physically up to organizing, and their family calendars.
"Decluttering and organizing is for men and women of all ages and in all situations,” Durham said. This session will benefit anyone, from the "lightweight” who wants to know how to organize his or her file cabinet to the "heavy-weight,” who wants a garage rearranged.
"Linda is a very popular speaker,” said Tony Wood, president of Texwood Shows, Inc. "Her expertise, energy and sense of humor make her a crowd favorite. I look forward to her being a part of the show again this year.”
Through Organizing Matters, Durham has been able to reach out to clients all over the Greater Houston area, with her focus being the Cy-Fair and Northwest Houston areas. She is a member of NAPO: National Association of Professional Organizers, The National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization and is the founder of the only community of Christian professional organizers: Faithful Organizers.
