Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show features Tom Tynan Noted home-improvement expert talks about the latest in home energy trend
Houston, TX, February 6, 2008 - Tom Tynan, home-improvement expert and champion of the energy efficient home design, is set to talk energy use during the Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show, March 1-2, at The Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Road.
"I'm excited to be part of the first-ever Cy-Fair Home and Garden Show,” said Tynan, who will discuss the latest in radiant barriers - those materials installed to reduce summer heat gain and winter heat loss. "It's great to have a show like this in our own neighborhood where I can talk to Cy-Fair homeowners about how these materials can help reduce their heating and cooling energy usage.
"Professionals in home construction and renovation, as well as everyday homeowners, are always concerned about energy usage,” Tynan said. "Radiant barriers are a tried and true measure for energy usage and should be considered when attempting to manage the energy in a home or building.”
Radiant barriers usually, but not always, consist of a thin sheet or coating of a highly reflective material applied to one or both sides of a number of substrate materials. These substrates include kraft paper, plastic films, cardboard, plywood sheathing, and air infiltration barrier material.
Recent developments in radiant barrier technology include an aluminum paint sprayed to the underside of the roof decking. Used in conjunction with attic insulation, radiant barriers are an effective means to increase comfort and decrease energy use and costs.
In addition to Tynan's appearance at the home and garden show, his expertise is also on the air weekends 8-11 a.m. on Sports Radio 610. "The Home Show,” is the longest running home improvement show in Texas. Tynan is also the owner of Tom Tynan Homes and Tynan Construction, and has written six books on home improvement. His bi-monthly publication, "The Right Angle,” has a circulation of 12,000 readers.
