Susman Godfrey Names Eric Mayer To Financial Fraud Task Force
HOUSTON, TX. - September 24, 2008
Responding quickly to the ongoing financial crisis on Wall Street and beyond, the law firm Susman Godfrey LLP has created an elite eight-partner financial fraud task force in its New York office – to help the firm’s clients evaluate claims for losses.
Four of these experienced financial fraud lawyers are resident in the firm’s New York office and four others have been brought in from the firm’s other offices to provide additional on-site resources in this urgent and time-sensitive effort. The task force includes veteran civil trial lawyers and former federal prosecutors.
Eric Mayer is a partner in the firm’s Houston office who has litigated complex commercial matters at the firm since 1988 – representing both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts across the country.
In August, Mayer won a significant case in the Texas Supreme Court, which held that three major insurance providers had a duty to defend the firm’s client – Nokia – in a series of class actions. In July, he successfully argued and won appeal of a Texas-wide class action on behalf of Hertz Corporation.
Mayer was one of six Susman Godfrey partners representing the Texas Cities for Clean Air Coalition in opposing the construction of a series of coal-fired power plants in Texas – a pro bono representation that earned the firm many accolades, including a 2008 NLJ Pro Bono Award from The National Law Journal.
Joining Mayer in New York on the financial fraud task force are Terry Oxford of Dallas, Marc Seltzer of Los Angeles and Floyd Short of Seattle, as well as Steve Susman, Bill Carmody, Robert Rivera and Jacob Buchdahl of the firm’s New York office.
