Pearson Named to Fort Bend County Women’s Center New Volunteer Hall of Fame
HOUSTON, May 15, 2007 - Though she works full-time as a Realtor for Prudential Gary Greene Realtors, Lane Pearson devotes countless hours every year to volunteering with the Fort Bend County Women’s Center. Last month, the center recognized her contributions and inducted her into its Volunteer Hall of Fame.
“Lane is a terrific, enthusiastic supporter of the women’s center,” said Vita Rogers, the organization’s executive director. “She’s a very giving person.”
Rogers said the Hall of Fame honors volunteers who have been involved with the women’s center for 10 or more years. She said Pearson is among the first class of inductees. “We wanted to recognize these people who have stuck with us through thick and thin,” she said.
Pearson, who works in Prudential Gary Greene’s Fort Bend office and is one of the company’s top producers, has volunteered with the center since 1998. That year, she co-chaired the organization’s annual Boogie Gala and stayed on to organize the Gala in 1999 and 2000. Since 2001, she has served as chairperson of the annual Gilman Charity Golf Tournament. Pearson was named Advisory Board Member of the Year in 2003.
She said she has always made time for volunteer work. “Working with the Fort Bend Women’s Center feels good to me. The center does so much to help abused women and children, and I want to do my part to eradicate abuse,” Pearson said.
She became involved with the center after attending one of the Galas. She saw a need and offered whatever assistance she could. “They weren’t making very much money at the time, and I felt I could help them in that area,” she said.
She’s made good on her word. Last year the golf tournament raised approximately $60,000, the most it has ever taken in. In addition to organizing the golf tournament, Pearson also sits on the center’s Council of Resources board.
The Fort Bend County Women’s Center serves as a 65-bed emergency shelter and offers abused women assistance and support such as help in finding housing, jobs, childcare and medical services.
