Power3 Medical Upgrades Patent Application Covering Test to Determine Resistance to Leukemia Drug

HOUSTON, April 10, 2007 - Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTCBB: PWRM), a leading proteomics company specializing in the development and commercialization of early detection diagnostic tests for neurodegenerative disease, breast cancer and drug resistance, said today that it has taken another step in building its growing portfolio of intellectual property by converting a provisional patent application to a utility patent application.

The patent application covers a test, a drug target and therapeutic design specifications with the potential to overcome resistance to imatinib mesylate (Gleevec®), a leading drug used to treat Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). Based on a proprietary and reproducible proteomic platform developed by Power3, the test identifies biomarkers that indicate which patients are resistant to – or will build resistance to – Gleevec.

Power3’s patent-pending test evaluates the concentrations of key biomarkers in initial diagnostic patient bone marrow aspirate samples to predict sensitivity or resistance to the drug prior to treatment. These biomarkers include a key protein in the mechanism of invasiveness and metastasis, measuring the potential of Gleevec to bind to its target, the BCR/ABL mutant fusion protein kinase, in treating CML. Should drug resistance be shown through its test, Power3 can offer drug design specifications -- based on biomarkers -- that can potentially overcome that resistance by potentially enhancing the ability of Gleevec to bind to the BCR/ABL protein kinase in resistant CML cells helping make patients sensitive to the treatment.

Further Advancements Since Initial Filing

Since filing the initial patent application a year ago, Power3 has made further advancements in its development of the test said Steven B. Rash, the company’s chairman and CEO.

“Power3 can now monitor the concentration of the biomarkers we’ve discovered – the proteins in patient bone marrow aspirates that were used to diagnose the patient,” he said. “Bone marrow can now be thought of as the ‘forward edge of the battle area (FEBA)’ and used to assist in the treatment of the patient. Since cancer cells are born and evolve in the bone marrow before entering the blood, our new test will be able to determine earlier if they are evolving into resistant forms.

“These very significant steps forward regarding this application, in addition to 16 other Power3 patent applications now under review by the U.S. Patent Office, continue to build our IP portfolio and presence in the scientific community,” Mr. Rash said.

Power3 Featured in Clinical Lab Products

Power3, said Mr. Rash, is “gaining attention and notice on a broader and wider scale than ever before in our history for our research and discovery efforts in biomarker-based testing procedures.”

“Following being featured in Wall Street Journal articles on proteomics earlier this year, Power3 has now gained further coverage from a leading scientific industry journal – Clinical Lab Products – in its latest issue,” he said.

“What we are doing is important right now, and we believe will be even more important tomorrow as patents are issued and our proprietary advancements become commercialized by leading companies and organizations worldwide,” Mr. Rash said. “Power3 is continuing its efforts to fine tune and commercialize our blood-based tests for breast cancer, ALS, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases, and continues to be buoyed by this and other strong response from the scientific industry to advancements, presentations at conferences and seminars, and invited articles in scientific journals.”
