Alexander Promotes Exercise And Eating Lifestyle Changes To CY-Fair Rotary Club
Houston, TX, June 03, 2008 -Mike Alexander Sr., owner of ABM Insurance & Benefit Services, Inc., spoke to the Rotary Club of Cypress Fairbanks at the Monday, June 2nd club meeting about his experience in implementing Wellness Programs and Reducing Insurance Costs in the workplace. Alexander has 22 years experience in the insurance business after a number of years in the management of a popular grocery chain.
He is a frequent guest on Kevin Price’s Houston Business Show on AM 650 radio. Alexanderis involved with several organizations including the National Association of Health Underwriters, Independent Insurance Agents Association, East End Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau and the National Association of Small Business Owners, to name a few. He is a licensed Risk Manager and highly regarded in the insurance industry.
Reducing health care cost has been Alexander’s focus in serving over 300 clients. He cited increasing use of prescription drugs as a major cause. Alexander blamed the rise in drug use on the advertising that is saturating television commercials. Because patients now go their doctors with their own diagnosis and cure, doctors now treat symptoms instead of finding causes according to Alexander.
Alexander recommended reading, “Fight for Your Health—Exposing the FDA’s Betrayal of America” by Byron J. Richards. The theme of the book deals with allegations that the FDA is actively attacking health freedom and seeking to eliminate natural health options.
After being diagnosed with Type II diabetes, Alexander recovered through changing his lifestyle with exercise, eating properly (most of the time), and adding natural supplements to his diet. Walking two miles a day is part of his daily regimen.

Helping clients to design and implement a Wellness Program is an integral part of his services. He urges employers to offer unconventional features such as the services of a nutritionist, acupuncturist and massage therapist to employees, as well as the traditional features which include fitness club memberships and annual medical examinations.
Alexander recommends using Health Savings Plans instead of traditional policies. Alexander has seen policy premium savings over traditional policies in the second and third year as employees become more involved in making health care decisions that are cost effective to their savings accounts. He recounted the success of an engineering client that has reduced health care costs by 30% over the last 3 years by using an HSA.
Alexander, who regained his health through lifestyle changes, says it is easier to stick to exercise and eating changes if you allow yourself to splurge occasionally. However, his choice for lunch at the Cy-Fair Rotary meeting site at Carl’s Barbeque was baked chicken and vegetables. Leading by example seems to be Alexander’s way of teaching healthy eating.
