BMD Services Announces ePaperless Practice
HOUSTON, May 14, 2007 -
BMD Services has announced today the immediate release and availability of their innovative, integrated medical software, ePaperless Practice, to the medical community in the Greater Houston area.
ePaperless Practice has met all of the rigid requirements of federal standards and guidelines for electronic medical records (EMR) and has been granted the CCHIT (Certified Commission for Healthcare Information Technology) approval by the federal government.
In 2004, President George W. Bush signed an executive order promoting the national adoption of EHRs (Electronic Health Records) calling for every American physician to have an EHR by 2014. Health Information Technology (HIT) is a bi-partisan issue; former Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, Sr. have both promoted the adoption of HIT, along with many legislators on both sides of the party line.
A September 2005 report by the RAND Corporation estimated that $77 billion annually would be saved if 90 percent of physicians adopted EHR. The report also estimated another $4 billion in savings from reductions in prescription errors as well as the potential for many lives to be saved using an efficient medical records retrieval system.
ePaperless Practice is an integrated EHR system that can perform all of the functions necessary to run a medical office or clinic. This includes the scheduling of appointments, charting of medical records, data retrieving, office managing, electronic filing of claims and financial reporting, etc.
“The savings and improved efficiency that we have achieved are very positive. We now save approximately $5 per patient per office visit by eliminating paper charts and print materials, and the “hands-on” physical labor required for pulling, finding, and re-filing of patient charts is a thing of the past,” said Dr. Jia, one of the many physicians who have integrated ePaperless Practice into their practice.
Dr. Jia continued, “But the most important aspect of this new system is that due to the way the program is designed, I can now spend more time giving quality care to my patients. Instead of looking through stacks of charts, now I just touch the screen and all the patient’s information is instantly in front of me.”
“One of the biggest concerns that a doctor has when considering whether or not to initiate an EHR system is that he or she does not want to become a slave to the computer. The system would have to be easy to use, intuitive, and not create additional work or technological challenges for himself or his staff. ePaperless Practice has met all those requirements,” added by Dr. Feng Jianwei, a local cardiologist, who is another user of ePaperless Practice.
“What we have created with ePaperless Practice is a system that follows a logical path which mirrors the way a medical office or clinic operates, so new users don’t have to change the way they gather information when starting to use the pen-like device for inputing into the electronic record,” Bill Hicks, sales manager of BMD Services, Inc. explained.
The ePaperless Practice program provides an integrated medical software solution to a busy medical practice. The software fully automates medical record retrieval and storage and reduces redundant entries of vital patient information previously stored in reams of paper files. The ePaperless Practice program provides automated ERM (Electronic Record Management), complete practice management functions, billing and claims management in one totally integrated software solution.
