Content of Business Directory Listings
What’s Not Acceptable
Q: Do you prohibit the listing of any particular types of businesses?
A: Yes. We do not list businesses of the following types: sexually-oriented businesses and other businesses that we determine would be inappropriate for listing on a commercial website that is marketed to the public at large.
Q: Why did you edit my description of my business?
A: We verify the existence of and review each site submitted to us before we upload it to the Business Directory. We modify the wording of each listing to accurately reflect the nature and content of each website. Our editors get the final say-so in describing your business to ensure that our directory maintains a high level of quality and relevancy with visitors to HoustonBusiness.com™.
Q: I submitted my company description in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS but you changed it. Why?
A: Because using all capital letters on the Internet is the online equivalent of car dealership radio advertisements where the announcer screams at you like the emcee of a monster truck pull: irritating, cheap, and unprofessional. The people who visit our site are capable of evaluating the product or service you sell without unecessary hype; if you’ll just provide a concise factual description of your site we’re certain they can decide whether your business is of interest to them.
Q: Can I use exclamation points to make my business name or description stand out!!!! ?
A: No. This is a business website, not a sales pitch to a live audience in an auditorium. Use accurate descriptive words to make your business stand out.
Q: Can I use marketing language in my business name or listing, like “We’re the Best!”?
A: No. The people who visit our site are capable of evaluating the product or service you sell without unecessary hype; if you’ll just provide a concise factual description of your site we’re certain they can decide whether your business is of interest to them.
What Is Acceptable
Q: What should my business listing description contain?
A: It’s real simple, actually. Just provide a concise factual description of the goods and/or services your company provides. Do your best in describing what you do, we’ll review it, and make any necessary modifications.
