HOUSTON BUSINESS REVIEW

Shahara Wright, A New Contributor For Houston Business Review
Experience through involvement. That would summarize Shahara D. Wright’s most valuable asset to her firm’s clients. Shahara, a 1998 graduate of the Texas Tech School of Law founded “The Wright Firm” in 2000. Her firm, located in Stafford, Texas, focuses on corporate and business transactions involving privately held corporations, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing, technology licensing, private sales of equity and debt securities, and advises a wide range of clients on general corporate, business and contractual matters.
Shahara’s business law caseload is varied and challenging ranging from representing a restaurant in the offering of common and preferred stock to helping a Houston businessman acquire an amateur football franchise. Her expertise as a legal author and lecturer covering topics like “Choosing the Right Business Entity,” Legal Issues Affecting Small Businesses,” and “Business Contracts 101,” is frequently tapped by groups like Urban Business Initiative, Houston Minority Business Council, Houston Area Urban League, Black Business Houston, Leisure Learning, and San Jacinto College. And, she keeps abrest of the ever-changing legal industry by being active in the Business Law Section of the Texas Bar Association, the Fort Bend Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, and Houston Lawyers Association.
But, far from being a legal academian, Shahara Wright has a wealth of real-world experience through her extensive community involvement. Shahara’s firm works with many non-profit organizations preparing and filing articles of incorporation, bylaws, tax exempt applications, as well as strategic planning, turn-around and organizational change consulting, and board development and reorganization. She understands these processes intimately because she works with various community organizations as a board member and volunteer. When Urban Business Initiaive struggled to re-organize after losing its principal financial and human-capital sponsor, Enron, Shahara took a leadership role on the Board of Directors and reshaped the organization as an independent entity. Shahara was also selected to be a part of the 2005 United Way “Project Blueprint” which trains and places ethnically diverse professionals in board leadership positions with United Way agencies.
Shahara’s intensive involvement in leading and organizing community groups, particularly those who work with small business owners and economic development, gives her first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by small businesses and nonprofit organizations alike. This involvement, along with her credibility as an author, lecturer, and instructor sets her apart from other lawyers who cannot offer their clients the wisdom that only experience and involvement can offer.
