Top 10 Secrets To Success
By Joe Stiles
Joe Stiles has more than 20 years experience in mortgage lending management, sales and administration. Unlike many in the Houston mortgage industry, Joe has lived in Houston for the past 20+ years, giving him a unique insight into our ever-changing marketplace.
“Success” is a daily struggle for many. Never, never, never doubt you can achieve your personal success goal. The achievement of your personal goal is not as far away as one may think. Consider these top 10 steps to achieving your personal success.
- ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING: Always be positive. Think success, not failure. Beware of a negative environment.
- ACT UPON YOUR TRUE DREAMS AND GOALS: Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them. Do not be afraid to reach higher than you think you can achieve. Would you like to guarantee your achievement of your personal goal? Take the bold step to share your written goal with 2-3 of your closest friends and ask them to periodically monitor your steps towards achieving your success.
- TAKE ACTION: Goals are worthless without action. Don’t be afraid to act, too much analysis causes paralysis. Develop a complementary relationship with someone who has been there-done that for your mutual support.
- NEVER STOP LEARNING: Get training and acquire additional skills. Immerse yourself in industry publications. Know your business well and find a coach to help you focus.
- BE PERSISTENT AND WORK HARD: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.
- LEARN TO ANALYZE DETAILS: Get the facts, learn from your mistakes. The best teacher is failure.
- DON’T BE AFRAID TO INNOVATE, BE DIFFERENT: Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity. Think outside of the box in identifying yourself or product/service (www.mortgagefinancingwithstile.com).
- COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY: In person, on the phone or email----whatever it is – learn to identify and motivate others. Stand up to Stand Out (www.standuptostandout.com) from the crowd.
- WILLING TO RISK: A crucial factor. No risk means no reward. Don’t be afraid of the unknown. Risk is the basis of success.
- GIVE TO GET: Serving others “first” without a one-for-one expectation builds strength in a growing and sharing relationship (see 1 Peter 4:10). Join an area chamber of commerce and become active. Who knows, maybe you will be recognized as Volunteer of the Year…as I was.
- LASTLY, but certainly not least – my personal favorite directive from Jeffrey Gitomer is AVOID IDIOTS & ZEALOTS: These people will try to rain on your parade (discourage you) because they have no parade of their own. Avoid them at all costs!
